Safety in Tbilisi

Hi. I%26#39;m from Hampshire, England, moved to Tampa, Florida and, potentially could be moving to Tbilisi for business. We%26#39;re going on a trip at the end of October and I%26#39;m most interested in how safe the City is for women on their own. Also interested in how different the environment is in comparison to UK/US and any other %26#39;on the ground%26#39; type info I can get that%26#39;s not in the guide books.

Look forward to hearing from anyone who%26#39;s spent time there.

Safety in Tbilisi

Hi TampaBritAbroad

I live in Tbilisi and can in my opinion Tbilisi is quite safe. The crime rate is certainly lower than it was a few years ago and there are many single women living here and generally have no problem.

By the way what part of Hampshire do you come from. I%26#39;m a Hampshire Hog my self, from Farnborough.

Safety in Tbilisi

Hi C_B

Thanks for that. We%26#39;re coming over on an orientation trip at the end of October so hopefully will get a feel for the City then.

I%26#39;m from Southampton and get back there about once a quarter. Only ever went to Farnborough for the airshow but then I imagine lots of people might say the same. Never really saw much of it.

Hi T.B.A

My late father%26#39;s house was very close to the airshow. I can always remember my mother taking the wshing in before the Red Arrows display. The red , yellow and blue trails from the engines was like confetti in the garden.

Drop me an e-mail dudingeo@hotmail.com and I will reply with my mobile number in Tbilisi. If you have any problem here you can just give me a call.

Yes, it%26#39;s safe, easy to get around. Every third car is a taxi, formal or otherwise. Just make sure driver is sober before you get in.

Drivers are aggressive and reckless. Be very careful crossing streets in traffic. Crosswalks are ignored and cars will often come around stopped traffic to get ahead of the line.

Metro is clean, fast, reliable and cheap, but very crowded in rush hour. Doesn%26#39;t cover a lot of the city. Lots of new construction right next to crumbling old buildings. Most good hotels are close to downtown. Sheraton is a bit far from downtown, especially if you want to walk.

Infrastructure is slowly improving and last year%26#39;s introduction of trash bins on streets has the city looking much cleaner.

City is green and lush in Spring, but you will be coming after driest period and surrounding hills are brown. Climate is like DC-NY in Tbilisi, and much colder and snowier in North and the mountainous areas. At end of October, night temperatures may be around 5-10C.

I%26#39;m from US, Fort Lauderdale originally, and have been here 1.5 years. It%26#39;s a great place to live, especially if you enjoy outdoor sports, mountains, antiquities...

Glad to hear it is safe. I am trying to book up to go watch my daughter play in the england under 17 football team there at end of october. They are playing in the locomotivo stadium so hope it is good.

Congratulations on your daughter%26#39;s football prowess. Years ago my nephew was on the US under 17 team and he played in Cairo while I lived there. He plays professionally now in US -- New England Revolution.

Try to book hotel early. Hotels are regularly sold out lately. Tourism is taking off but not enough hotel rooms in Tbilisi.

I have stayed at the Brittish hous hotel a few times. close to the centre and quite nice. Friendly people and nice service.
