There will be a ';fan fest'; at Mushtaidi Park on 17 October prior to the Georgia Scotland football game. The park will be ';closed off for this event and secured by city police';.
Whilst it is a hospitable gesture I am somewhat dissapointed that it is considered necessary. There appears to be concerns that the Scottish supporters may be attacked on the way to the ground - this happened in Kiev.
It would be interesting to know what the locals think of this? From reading this forum and other resources on Georgia it surprises me that this risk would exist.

I, too, am a little concerned at this news, and although there is the odd story of unsavoury goings on, I was/am convinced everything will be fine.
Personally, I dont like the idea of this ';fan fest'; anyway. I remember making the big mistake of attending the one arranged at the San Siro a few years ago. I was horrendous. Mind you, it had been %26#39;organised%26#39; by the Daily Record, so I should have expected nothing else.
Still up for that shandy or four in Tbilisi, McOne? And I agree, C_B might need a taxi home after the free rounds he%26#39;s owed. ;-)

Yes, I%26#39;m up still up for a few shandies. I imagine I won%26#39;t surface until about eleven but then I%26#39;ll be heading straight down your way because I have a bag of kids clothes to drop off at the embassy for the infant hospital.
The embassy is next to the Courtyard isn%26#39;t it?
I don%26#39;t like the idea of the fan fest either although they were great fun in Germany for the WC. However, with all the effort to get to Georgia and the richness of their hospitality and the fact that it is a different culture it seems a bit of a waste to get penned into a park that is probably only for Scotland fans. If I go it will be a few hours before kick off.
