Is it safe to go to Svaneti (Mestia)

I am planning to travel with 4 friends by car through Georgia for two weeks (april/may 2008). At this moment we are not sure if it is possible and safe to go by car via Zugdidi and Jvari to Mestia (Svaneti). Can somebody please advise us?

If this trip is safe to do, we would like to drive from Mestia over Bogreshi and Tsana to Kutaisi. This will be at the beginning of May 2008. Is this possible, considering the climate and quality of the roads in Svaneti?

Have a nice trip... about your desire, I do not suggest you to go to Mestia by Car, the roads are not in the best condition, of course depends on the kind of your car, but I do not suggest anyway...

Are u going to overnight there? I would suggest yes, as it takes about 4 hours to get from Zugdidi to Mestia, why wont you contact your local host (in guesthouse, you will be accommodated in the families house )and ask for road conditions one more time, if he also will suggest not to go by your car, he might offer you transportation service, or you can get there by local minibuses, anyway, accommodating in the local family house, what they call guesthouses means that you are guest to that family and they will definitely take care of your safety :)
