For Scottish Fans in Tbilisi

The football match will be shown on just about every television (that works) in Georgia.

However, the Hangar Bar definitely has full live coverage on their wide screens both inside and outside.

The owner told me last night that there will be a party in the Hangar after the match with complimentary beer for all Scottish supporters who watch the match there.

Not bad for an Irish Pub...!!!

Not bad at all. As I%26#39;ll be at the match, how about free beer after it? ;-)

I%26#39;d really appreciate a few answers to questions I have about Tbilisi.

1. Are there any good fitness clubs in Tbilisi? I%26#39;m a Gym Rat, and I don%26#39;t see where any hotels have clubs in them ( good running treadmills, Lifecycles, weightroom, etc). I%26#39;d prefer an actual fitness club as I may be in Tbilisi for at least two years, working.

2. Would you recommend I bring my bike ( road bicycle) with me? Are there long stretches of good paved road in or around Tbilisi to get some long, hard riding in? Not peddling around town kind of riding, but fairly fast distance riding with as few stops as possible.

3. Can a guy get around in taxis, meet people, conduct daily business and such speaking only English in Tbilisi?

Thanks much ahead a-time for any help I can get. Thing is, I%26#39;m in the process of choosing between Tbilisi, Nairobi, and Ho Chi Minh City for work and I haven%26#39;t been to any of them. Being able to do my hobbies plays into my decision. Thanks.

Hi DonPhoenix,

Answers to your three questions as follows:

1. Fitness Clubs

There are three good fitness clubs here in Tbilisi. The two Marriotts have modern gyms with kit you describe and there is also a fitness club at Betsy%26#39;s Hotel. You can check out there websites for further info.

We are just construction the new Radisson Hotel that will also have a cutting edge fitness club. You can see the new Radisson on our website http://ds.com.ge then follow the link to Raddison. The Radisson page also has a link to our webcam that shows the construction site in real time 24/7.

2. Cycling

Tbilisi itself is not much for the sort of cycling you describe and in any case the Georgian drivers show little respect on the road. The roads are much better outside although places to go are few and far between.

3. Getting Around.

Most of my getting around in Tbilisi is walking but sometimes I use a taxi. Most taxi drivers speak little English and a good idea is to have your various destinations written down in Georgian. There are thousands of taxis here. The only place I%26#39;ve ever seen more is in Cairo. Meeting people here is not difficult. After you%26#39;ve been here a while you%26#39;ll soon settle into the kind of places you like. In general Tbilisi is quite a friendly place. Doing business here in English is not difficult. There are translators available and if you are doing day to day business for a couple of years it would pay you to have a permanent translator. There is a one or two I can recommend to you.

4. Choosing location

Your choice of locations is wide and varied. Let%26#39;s hope you choose Tbilisi. After a work out in the gym you%26#39;ll love the hot springs and sulfur baths. I go there most Sundays (if I%26#39;m not working). You can check them out on one of the many Tbilisi websites.

Hope the above helps.....

Thanks, Caicos Boy. That%26#39;s what I wanted to hear (except for the biking, but I can deal with that). Thanks again.

Don

Hi there

I think Caisos Boy is understating the driving habits and I forgot to mention in my last post..... they are bonkers, its wacky races on the roads and Iv driven all over Europe. If your into cyclying and like hills Tbilisi is sort of in a valley so there is good cycling outside of the city buy the city itself you are taking your life in your hands.
