Travelers checks

Well, it looks like my trip to Tbilisi is on again for this fall! So my next question is, I keep reading that it%26#39;s just about impossible to exchange travelers checks in Georgia. Is that true? I%26#39;m pretty nervous about carrying around large quantities of dollars. I had been hoping to take American Express travelers checks.

I don%26#39;t mean using a travelers check at a shop. That would be very rude.

But is there anywhere to exchange travelers checks to lari?

Travelers checks

Hello

that%26#39;s not true, most of georgian banks (if not everyone) serve american express travel checks, and the fee is 0.8%

here is the link of Bank Republic, the member of Societe Generale Group,

https://www.republic.ge/index.php…

and link of ProCreditBank, the member of Deutche Bank

procreditbank.ge/index.php…

Not sure that you can use it tu buy something, but exchange - not a problem

good luck

Travelers checks

Why don%26#39;t you just use the ATMs as and when you need the cash?

There will be a fee but I would imagine less that using travelers cheques. If you don%26#39;t feel comfortable using the ATM%26#39;s in the street then there is one inside the Marriott at Freedom Square.

using ATMs even in the streets is not dangerous. also not only courtyeard but both of Marriot hotels and most of bank branches in the city centre have ATMs indoor, just i really do not know how expensive it could be for foreigners. when we use our local Visa cards in another bank%26#39;s ATM it costs up to 2% in georgia and at least 2.5% abroad (instead of one bank which has 0.2% in any ATM in the world, and also has special travel card which is free of charge abroad)

So the charges depends on your local bank%26#39;s tarrifs, just it must be checked

Urban Woman - you gots yerself bigger fish to fry in TBILSI than travel checks - the country is at war w the REDS.

I suggest you stay closer to home and cancel yer trip.

best of luck urban one

The danger of traveling to and around Georgia is no greater than Boston, probably safer.
